LISA BARRY BERG

CLASS OF 2007
 

Lisa Barry Berg was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She made her mark in Oklahoma tennis at an early age, earning # 1 rankings in 12’s and 14’s beginning when she was nine years old.  She was ranked # 1 in Girls 12 singles in the Missouri Valley in 1966.  The following year she ended up with a # 1 national doubles ranking and a # 4 national singles ranking. Then in 1968 her highest national ranking ever was # 2 in 12’s.  She played # 1 singles and # 1 doubles at Oklahoma State University for four years.  She was selected Most Outstanding player for the team all four years.  At the end of her senior year, Lisa was selected as the Most Outstanding Female Athlete at OSU.

She taught tennis in Tulsa at Indian Springs, Philcrest Hills, Southern Hills, and the Tulsa Tennis Club.  She is a lifetime member of the USTA, a USPTA member, as well as being a Wilson Advisory Staff member for 35 years. For two years, she coached the women’s tennis team at Oral Roberts University.

In 1980, Lisa moved to Hawaii to become the Tennis Director at the Naniloa Surf Hotel in Hilo.  There she enjoyed coaching local players as well as ranked juniors for three years.  She moved on to become the Tennis Director at the Hyatt Regency in Kaanapali, Maui.  Lisa worked with hotel guests, local players, celebrities and again several ranked juniors, as well as organizing corporate events.

Lisa moved to Marin County in 1988.  She worked at a small club in Kentfield, California, for about a year and a half and has been the Tennis Director at the Rafael Racquet Club in San Rafael since 1989.  She has been very busy with the USTA Northern California Section.   She served on the Junior Council for 5 years and is currently on the Coaching Commission. 

Lisa and Ron have been married since 1989 and reside in Greenbrae, California.  They have two children, Conor and Hadley.  Conor played tennis for the University of New Mexico and Hadley currently plays for University of South Carolina.
